Private Apartments and Joint Guarantee Programs

※Tohoku University International Student Housing Guarantee Program will stop accepting new applications for use as of December 31, 2024, and this program will be discontinued.
When renting an apartment in Japan, a joint guarantor may be required. For Japanese students, parents or relatives often serve as joint guarantors. If an international student whose legal guardian does not reside in Japan rents an apartment, a private guarantor company can be used as a guarantor for the contract. Tohoku University recommends the Tohoku University Co-op Rental Tenant Service [Sumuraku Plan].
