In contemporary international society, “international politics” and “international economics” have become more closely intertwined, and are now closely related to global environmental issues. The nature of these dizzying changes can only be understood from a multidisciplinary perspective that transcends the conventional frameworks of political science, economics, and environmental studies.
The Department of International Political Economy aims to build new, cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary knowledge based on such multifaceted thinking. In particular, we focus on political and economic relations among Japan, Asia, the U.S., Europe, and other countries in the context of globalization, and on the construction of sustainable societies.
The Department of International Political Economy is organized as a course of study in international politics, international economics, and sustainability. The courses in this course cover international political relations and sustainability science in the international environment surrounding Japan, including security, regional conflicts, nationalism, trade, regional economic integration, global economic system, circular economy, carbon neutrality, and risk management. By doing so, the program aims to provide research and education to unravel the close international relations in politics, economics, and the environment.
This course provides an educational program that cultivates the ability to gain insight into international political, economic, and social phenomena by applying cross-disciplinary knowledge based on political science, international relations, economics, environmental studies, information science, and other social sciences, and strives to develop human resources with broad knowledge and creative analytical skills to unravel the complex and diverse realities of contemporary international society.
