What is the European and American Studies

This chair was established to bring together faculty members whose research focuses on the European and American regions to create a more interdisciplinary education and research structure. It currently consists of three faculty members specializing in French and Americas literature and American history.

Europe and the United States have historically been a region of mixed ethnic, racial, and linguistic histories, and until the 20th century, it was the world's leading region with many colonies. In the 21st century, with the advance of globalization, we are living in an era in which we must make relative evaluations of these regions with complex histories.

In this context, this course provides education based on specific and specialized research in the fields of European Area Studies and American Area Studies, respectively, in order to elucidate the specificity and diversity of the cultures and societies of each region. Furthermore, we aim to gain a holistic understanding of European and American culture through close collaboration between research fields.

Based on the above meticulous educational system, the educational goal of this course is to develop human resources with expertise and a broad perspective essential to survive in the coming global era.
