March 24, 2026 – "Nichi-Doku Joint Lecture" about Activism Through Art and Performance
On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, a lecture of the series “Nichi-Doku Joint Lecture” held in Kyoto will explore 1990s AIDS activism through film analysis. The event welcomes Marco Del Din to Kyoto, who is an advanced PhD Candidate at Heidelberg University and Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
His research interests include of Transcultural, Queer, and Gender Studies, focusing on Japan and his PhD project looks at gender in contemporary Japanese society through the lens of drag. His talk will focus on AIDS activism in the 1990s taking the example of a film related to the Kyoto drag scene.
The lecture will feature commentary by Professor Chika Kinoshita, providing insights into her research in the field of film studies. She works at the Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies of Kyoto University and her research interests include topics such as culture, gender, sexuality, and intermediality.
The lecture is part of the “Nichi-Doku Joint Lecture” series organized by the Kyoto University European Center (KUEC) in Heidelberg and the Heidelberg University Office Kyoto (HUOK). The lecture language of this event is English.
