International Lecture: The Ottoman Mixed Commercial Courts and Extraterritorial Justice in Nineteenth-Century Asia

This lecture focuses on the Ottoman Mixed Commercial Courts, which have been largely ignored by the existing historiography of international law.
Placing them in a broader Asian context, it argues that they offer a particularly revealing lens through which to examine the transformation of extraterritoriality and the making of the nineteenth-century international order.
