Associate Professor Takumi Uchihara of the Department of Applied Linguistics has recently published in The Modern Language Journal (MLJ), a leading journal in the fields of language education and applied linguistics.
This study re-examines the role of multiword sequences (MWSs)—traditionally seen as key predictors of speaking proficiency—within the context of dialogic performance. Interestingly, the findings suggest that the use of MWSs does not significantly predict speaking proficiency in interactive dialogues, challenging existing assumptions based on monologic tasks.
