Students from Furukawa High School in Miyagi Visit Professor Ryo Ikeda
On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, six students from Furukawa High School in Miyagi Prefecture visited Professor Ryo Ikeda (Vice Dean of the Graduate School of International Cultural Studies / Department of International Politics and Economy), who specializes in international relations in Europe and Asia.
This visit took place after the students themselves contacted Professor Ikeda, expressing their wish to deepen their understanding of international affairs.
On the day of the visit, Professor Jeongsoo Yu, Dean of our Graduate School, also joined the meeting, and they talked mainly about the situation in Ukraine. The students asked the following questions:
How does the war in Ukraine affect our daily lives?
What can we do to support children in Ukraine?
What kinds of sanctions can international organizations such as the United Nations impose on Russia?
Professor Ikeda provided clear explanations of the current situation from the perspective of international politics and responded thoughtfully to the students’ interests. The students’ proactive approach in seeking learning opportunities for themselves was highly impressive, and the visit became a valuable opportunity for exchange for our Graduate School as well.
