I wrote papers on French phonology and French syntax. While I was in Belgium, I learned a lot about translation studies although the area was not so popular then. Since I came to Sendai, I have seen a lot of foreign students especially from East Asia pursue their studies of Japanese comparing the language with their mother tongues (Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and so on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this background, I am now interested in various topics: Romance linguistics, humor and jokes, (im)politeness and facework, subtitling and dubbing, and syntactic constraints on code-switching. What I am proud of is that I have published papers with some of my ex-students in international journals.
