Margaretha Geertsema received her Ph.D. in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master's degree in Communication from Washington State University. Before coming to the United States in 1999, Geertsema studied at North-West University and worked at Die Burger in South Africa. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Eugene S. Pulliam School of Journalism at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her research focuses on gender and international news and has been published in the Journal of Development Communication, the AEJMCfs International Communication Bulletin, Media Report to Women, Global Media Journal, and is forthcoming in Feminist Media Studies. Geertsema is particularly interested in gender mainstreaming in the news media and in gender and media activism. |
